Patrick's Amazing Amazon Adventure!
February and March, 2007
Patrick's cruise up the Amazon
led to the incredible
Manaus Opera House in the
jungles of Brazil.
See more pictures of it here.
And read a little about a cruise to see it here.
The following photos and reflections submitted by Jeannette and Peter Mason
Both Patrick and the webmaster send them our sincere thanks.
A folklore show in the vibrant colors of the jungle.
Pirates of Penzance
with Maestro Healy at the Helm
for this ship-board production!
According to the Masons, Patrick's lovely easy  manner and wit made
him extremely popular with all the passengers.  They said that the
entertainment was excellent!

The Shipboard Audience
The Manaus Opera House was opened especially for the P&O Cruise
Gala Opera Evening
This was a black tie affair with
wine, cocktails, and canapés.

Read more about the Manaus Opera House:  here.
The evening's entertainment was performed by the opera singers
on the cruise for the
Music Festival at Sea.

The programme was a selection from Tannhauser, Tosca, Norma, Don Carlos, La Clemenza di tito, Madam Butterfly, The Magic Flute, Aleko,
Samson & Delilah, Turandot and Pearl Fishers.

The cast was made up of:   Eldrydd Cynan Jones (soprano), Yvonne Howard (mezzo), Geraint Dodd (tenor), Arwel Huw Morgan (bass-baritone), Ingrid Surgenor (piano), Angela Malsbury (clarinet), and David Pettit (piano), introduced by Humphrey Burton.
"Next we traveled up the Amazon,
where in the middle of the jungle
and rain forest there is a
magificent Opera House
called Manaus -
built in 1896 when the rubber
plantations were thriving."

This is their beautiful ship, the Artemis.  They visited all around the Carribean and swam in the deep blue seas.
Patrick tells us the cruise was delightful!
Patrick continues......

"We performed in the most beautiful opera house.  It was a gala evening - the audience were in full evening dress, and they were treated to a Champagne reception.  The Opera House - built with marble from Italy and fabrics from France - was exquisite and the acoustics were perfect - requiring no amplification.  It was a truly memorable evening which I will never forget."
